The balance of our player’s fees helps pay for ongoing field maintenance, officials’ fees, insurance, utilities, field equipment and advertising.  Our fee only covers the basic operating expenses to put on the fall season. The SCFL relies 100% on Sponsorships and Fund Raising efforts to provide funding for capital improvements and major repairs to our facilities. These efforts are critical to improving the quality of the SCFL playing fields and facilities.  Our new Gullo Park Facility has all been built through donated funds and supplies and/or services sold to us at a significant discount from generous area businesses and the Montgomery County Commissioners Office.  Please see the Sponsorship page for more information.

What happens during the tryout?

Players are weighed and measured and will be fitted for their uniform if they haven't already done so at In-Person Registration. Each Player will then tryout in front of all of the coaches of his respective division. In the tryout, the players are required to run a timed 30-40 yard dash, run a timed agility test, attempt to catch a football thrown by a coach, throw a football to a coach, and tackle a tackling dummy. Additional tests may be implemented. Before the Players are dismissed the coaches have an opportunity to ask each Player a few questions. Each Coach then evaluates the Players based on their own criteria. At the end of tryouts the Coaches draw for draft position.

How is the draft organized?

The draft for each division will be held on Sunday, July 20th, . All Coaches will draw numbers to determine their position in the draft after the tryouts.

In the event, there is a player who is registered but cannot try out on one of the two designated dates, they will be assigned to teams after all players who have tried out have been selected. The Coaches will pick these players via a hat draw.

The draft will be conducted in a snake format, i.e. 1-2-3-4, 4-3-2-1, then 1-2-3-4, etc.

The only “freezes” are Coach’s son(s) and Assistant Coach’s son(s). The Assistant Coach must be declared prior to tryouts, no exceptions. Freezes will be ranked by the Coaches during tryouts and assigned a draft round number based on their abilities. The Coaches will then forfeit a draft pick the round in which their son(s) are ranked.

Special requests for car pools or other needs must be submitted to the Board (nancyadamson@yahoo.com) in writing before the draft. Special requests will be considered by the coaches in the draft but are not guaranteed.

Trades between teams will be allowed immediately after the draft, during a specified time period, with both Coaches’ agreement.

How will I know what team I am on?

The Draft will be held on Sunday, July 20th. Upon conclusion of the Draft, the Coaches will call the players to introduce themselves and set the date, time and place of the first practice.

Who are the coaches?

All of the coaches are volunteers. Most have previous football coaching and/or playing experience. Many of the coaches have coached in the SCFL in the past. The coaches go through a screening and evaluation process by the Board of Directors in an effort to find the most qualified coaches. This is not an easy job. If you have prior coaching and/or playing experience, please let us know. We are always looking for individuals who are willing to share their time to develop the youth of our community.

Post Season Tournament Play Answers

How are the teams selected for Post-Season Tournament Play?

The winning Super Bowl Coach in each Division will coach the Tournament Team. If that Coach is unable to perform this duty, it will fall to the second place team, then third, etc.  These tournaments will be played throughout November.

The Coach selects the Tournament Team with input from other Coaches in the Division

The Coach is responsible for selecting his own Tournament Team Coaching Staff.

The fee to participate, collected at All Star registration, covers the new uniform that each player will be given.  The fees to play in each All Star tournament is self-funded by the team either through Sponsorships or a collection among the parents to divide the cost of the tournaments.
