POST SEASON TOURNAMENT PLAY QUESTIONS

How are the teams selected for Post-Season Tournament Play?
The winning Super Bowl Coach in each Division will coach the Tournament Team. If that Coach is unable to perform this duty, it will fall to the second place team, then third, etc. These tournaments will be played throughout November.

The Coach selects the Tournament Team with input from other Coaches in the Division
The Coach is responsible for selecting his own Tournament Team Coaching Staff.
The fee to participate, collected at All Star registration, covers the new uniform that each player will be given. The fees to play in each All Star tournament is self-funded by the team either through Sponsorships or a collection among the parents to divide the cost of the tournaments.

REGISTRATION QUESTIONS

Football Fee Structure: How much is the Registration Fee this year?
The Football Registration Fee is $230. No fundraiser will be offered.
back to Registration Questions / back to top

What is included with the paid Registration Fee?
The majority of your registration fee goes toward your player's hand-fitted game shirt and hand-fitted game pants. The balance of the fee helps pay for ongoing field maintenance, officials' fees, insurance, utilities, field equipment and advertising. The registration fee covers only the basic operating expenses necessary to conduct the current season. SCFL relies 100% on Sponsorships and Fund Raising efforts to provide funding for capital improvements and major repairs to our facilities. These efforts are critical to improving the quality of the SCFL playing fields and facilities. The construction of our new Gullo Park Facility has been funded entirely by donated funds and by supplies and services sold to us at a significant discount from generous area businesses and the Montgomery County Commissioners Office. Please see the Sponsorship page for more information.

How is the draft organized?
The draft for all age divisions will be held on Sunday, July 25th. All Coaches will draw numbers to determine their position in the draft after the tryouts.

The draft will be conducted in a snake format, i.e. 1-2-3-4, 4-3-2-1, then 1-2-3-4, etc.

The only "player freezes" are Coach's son(s) and Assistant Coach's son(s). The Assistant Coach must be declared prior to tryouts, no exceptions. Freezes will be ranked by the Coaches during tryouts and assigned a draft round number based on their abilities. The Coaches will then forfeit a draft pick in the round in which their sons are ranked.

In the event there is a player who is registered but cannot attend one of the designated try-outs, that player will be assigned to a team after all players who have tried out have been selected. Coaches will pick these players via a hat draw.

Trades between teams will be allowed immediately after the draft, during a specified time period, with both Coaches agreement.

back to Try Out & Team Selection Questions / back to top

What happens during the tryout?
Players are weighed and measured and will be fitted for their uniforms. Each Player will then try out in front of all of the coaches of his division. In the try-out, the players are required to run a timed 40 yard dash, run a timed agility test, attempt to catch a football thrown by a coach, throw a football to a coach, and tackle a tackling dummy. Additional drills may be implemented. Before the players are dismissed, the coaches have an opportunity to ask each Player a few questions about their athletic experience. Each Coach then evaluates the players based on their own criteria. At the end of tryouts the Coaches draw for draft position.
back to Try Out & Team Selection Questions / back to top

What should I bring to tryouts and how long will they last?
Players are encouraged to wear a T-shirt, shorts, socks, and football cleats. Tryouts usually last about one hour.
back to Try Out & Team Selection Questions / back to top

Who are the coaches?
All of the coaches are volunteers. Most have previous football coaching and/or playing experience. Many of the coaches have coached in the SCFL in the past. The coaches go through a screening and evaluation process by the Board of Directors in an effort to find the most qualified coaches. This is not an easy job. If you have prior coaching and/or playing experience, please let us know. We are always looking for individuals who are willing to share their time to develop the youth of our community.
